Pastoral Care Arrangements
Class teachers have
responsibility for the pastoral care of every pupil within their class. Overall
responsibility is assumed by the headteacher in consultation with individual
teachers. In the event of a significant illness or injury during the school day,
telephone contact is normally made with a child's parents to notify them of the
situation. Arrangements are then made for the child to be collected or taken home
from school. If parents or other contacts are unavailable, the child is kept at
school and the staff endeavour to make the situation as comfortable as
circumstances allow. Serious cases will obviously mean immediate contact with the
emergency services, e.g. ambulance service.
All members of staff hold a current Certificate of Emergency First Aid as issued by the West Glamorgan Fire Service. Some members of staff hold more advanced certificates.
Fire drills are held at least once a term. Fire alarm systems, emergency lighting are checked regularly. P.E. equipment is checked regularly on a weekly, and annually basis.
The Healthy Authority makes annual dental inspections of all pupils. Hearing and vision checks are made every two years and otherwise when necessary. Any speech and language difficulties are referred to appropriate agencies when necessary. The Education Welfare Service and Schools Psychological Service are consulted when required.
