of subjects. The main subjects - referred to as "core" subjects are English,
Mathematics and Science. The other subjects known as the "foundation" subjects are
Welsh, Information & Communications Technology, Religious Education, Art, Design &

"In both key stages the curriculum is broad, balanced and relevant. There are well considered policies and schemes of work for all subjects of the NC and religious
education. This framework provides a good basis for planning lessons and ensures clear progression. There is strong emphasis on English and mathematics. Regular class and group reading sessions and the good attention given to mental work have a positive impact on standards."
--School Inspection (2004)
During Literacy time the children will be taught to organise what they want to say and
use vocabulary that enables communication with a wide range of people, including
listening to and responding to different audiences. The children will be
encouraged to develop as enthusiastic, independent and reflective readers, being
introduced to a wide range of literature for their own interest, pleasure and
information.
The children will be given opportunities to write for various purposes
and audience. Emphasis will be placed on planning, drafting and improving their
work, along with opportunities to discuss and evaluate their own and others’
writing. In handwriting the children will be given
opportunities to develop legible, printed and joined styles.
